Welcome to Friends of the
Whitefish Community Library
Welcome to the Friends of the Whitefish Community Library website. We’d like to introduce you to the organization and tell you what the Friends of the Whitefish Community Library Group is all about.
Friends of the Library organizations exist throughout the country to provide assistance to local libraries. Friends might even be called a fairy godmother of the Library. A wish list is prepared by the Library and submitted to the Friends Group. From this list, the Friends prioritize the requests and work to make those wishes a reality.
The Whitefish Community Library has always been a centerpiece of the Whitefish community, and from its humble beginning in 1916 has been supported and loved by residents of Whitefish. This outpouring of support is a tribute to the vital role the library plays in our lives.
Building on the existing foundation of dedicated support, the Friends of the Whitefish Community Library was formed to expand and enhance the volunteer services currently in place. The Friends work in a close partnership with the Library, raising public awareness and use of the Library through cultural, educational and social activities, and raising funds to expand and enhance library programs and services. The Friends of the Whitefish Community Library is following the successful pattern of many Friends groups throughout the country, each established to assist libraries with expanding their resources to serve the public.
Friends helping Friends is what makes a community thrive. Join the Friends of the Whitefish Community Library and have fun supporting our library, the heart and soul of our community.
"There is not such a cradle of democracy upon the earth as the Free Public Library, this republic of letters, where neither rank, office, nor wealth receives the slightest consideration."
